The system you have is a bit of an odd duck;- Apple had two variations in the Mid 2009 15' models. This one is the 2.53 GHz unit which used a different body. To add to this the Upper case also has two variations:. Top Case w/Keyboard, Glossy 661-5244.
Top Case w/Keyboard, Anti-Glare 661-5297 So you do need to get the correct one. I have never found a workable keyboard sub assembly for this series so if you got one make sure its for this system I suspect you got the wrong one (you'll need to get the uppercase). OK how to isolate this down? I would disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable and connect the MagSafe adapter to the system, then use the power pads to see if I could start up the system. Use a screw driver to short across these two pads.
